“Encino”. Huge, fine heads of buttery, lightly savoyed leaves. Dense heads of lightly serrated wavy leaves with slightly blanched centers. In our trials it was sweet and buttery, with larger heads and better resistance to bottom rot than Panisse. Uniform size, slow to bolt. Open-Pollinated. Seed source and photo: High Mowing. CULTURE:
Lettuce is hardy and can be planted as early as the soil can be worked. It is a cool-weather crop and grows best at temperatures of 60–65°F (15.5–18.3°C). Grows best in well-drained, sandy loam soil. Perfect for raised beds!
