Our Organic & Regenerative Farm

Winterspring Farm uses regenerative and sustainable growing practices to keep our soil thriving and water clean. We implement a diversity of tactics to build soil health, such as reduced tillage, crop rotations, mulching and cover crops. These practices limit soil erosion, build in ground carbon, minimize imported fertility needs, shrink the risk of pest and disease issues, build soil texture, increase water retention, and create abundant biodiversity. In keeping the soil covered and growing, we cut the chances of nutrients leaving our systems through wind and water erosion.

REAL Organic

Our farm is certified USDA organic through MOSA. We’re also certified by the Real Organic Project, which was started by farmers to protect the true meaning of organic and has higher standards, including growing in healthy living soil (vs. hydroponic factories).

Organic Partners & Fertilizers

We source our seeds from trusted organic distributors, including High Mowing, Strictly Medicinal, Cultivating the Commons, and Johnny’s.

We use only the highest quality of organic potting mix available, from Vermont Compost, for our seedlings to ensure their success. We take care in using the best biodynamic organic compost available locally from Grounded LLC as well as organic compost produced by Purple Cow.

We apply fertility in the form of organic animal-based fertilizers, including CPM (pelletized chicken manure), fish emulsion, and poultry bedding from our own hens). These sources of fertility provide essential nutrients that feed and diversify the soil microbes, which in turn foster the growth of beautiful plants. Using organic animal-sourced fertility means there is no need for conventional, synthetic fertilizers that harm soil biology and pollute water. Our organic fertility applications are slow releasing, which protects against the risk of nutrients leaching into nearby waterways or over saturating the soil, creating ecological imbalance.
